On Monday September 24th, the “IMRU Radio Show” on KPFK 90.7 FM from 7:00 to 8 PM will feature Ian Lawrence of AmBi and Denise Penn of the American Institute of Bisexuality to celebrate bisexuality and promote bisexual visibility.

In 1999, Gigi Raven Wilbur and other bisexual activists put their heads together and created “Celebrate Bisexuality Day” by setting aside September 23rd as a day to celebrate bisexual visibility.  The first annual Celebrate Bisexuality Day was celebrated internationally in Johannesburg, South Africa at the conference, “Building Partnerships for Equality.” This conference was the most successful and biggest-ever International Lesbian and Gay Association (ILGA) World Conference with delegates from 40 countries gathered at the plenary session. It also marked the first time in its 22 years of existence, that an ILGA World Conference was held on the African continent.

It was inspiring for bisexual activists who attended the ILGA World Conference in Johannesburg to see the official Bisexual Flag, with its pink, blue and lavender colors flying over the conference.

Since that time, groups all over the US and the world celebrate by holding all kinds of events and showing the world how positive it is to be bisexual.
