Thousands of people have attended a series of events to remember the life and career of Hong Kong movie legend Leslie Cheung on the tenth anniversary of his death.

Many are making pilgrimages to places in Hong Kong where the star’s movies and music videos were shot while a series of film screenings, concerts and exhibitions is being held across the city this month to honor the performer’s legacy.

A concert with performances by around 20 Hong Kong music stars was held to honor Cheung, while another, the 2013 Love Journey Leslie Cheung 10th Anniversary Commemorative Concert, is being held at the Hong Kong Cultural Center today.

Cheung reached an international audience when the film Farewell My Concubine won Best Picture at the 1993 Cannes Film Festival – the first and only Chinese language film to do so.
