home-page-book-cover-196x300.jpgIn her new book, GENDER BORN, GENDER MADE: Raising Healthy Gender-Nonconforming Children, Dr. Diane Ehrensaft provides clear and caring guidance on both the challenges, daily concerns and joys of working with children who bend the traditional rules of gender.
The subject of gender-nonconforming and transgender children is increasingly visible in the media and public conversation – from J. Crew ads causing controversy to the raising of baby Storm as gender neutral - but our understanding of such children is still in its infancy.  And there are many questions for which people are looking for answers.

Dr. Ehrensaft, a developmental and clinical psychologist, draws on her experiences working with gender-nonconforming children over the past 25 years, as well as being the parent of a gender-nonconforming child.
Emphasizing that we do not make gender-nonconforming children, they come to us, Dr. Ehrensaft offers parents, clinicians, and educators guidance on both the philosophical dilemmas and the practical, daily concerns of working with children who don’t fit a “typical” gender mold.

“Courageous and clear, this book tells gender like it is—with real advice for those brave parents who are helping their transgender children to lead the 21st-century world toward an understanding of what it means to be fully human. Gender Born, Gender Made is a must-read for anyone who wants to comprehend the function and importance of gender in American culture, and learn how we can break gender’s irrational stranglehold on the human spirit,” writes Jamison Green, PhD, educator, policy consultant, and author of Becoming a Visible Man.
