Carlton Goes Indie

First, she left New York to change her environment. After writing the first song on "Rabbits", she realized it wasn't suited for a major record label -- so she went independent, spending her own money on all of the production. "That meant I was going to have to make my ideal record and somehow achieve some sort of fantasy scenario," she says in the web video.
Carlton enlisted Steve Osborne the man behind the atmospheric sounds for the bandDoves, one of her favorite groups, to help her produce the album. (Osborne has also worked with U2, KT Tunstall, and the B-52s). She also made another bold choice – to create a purely analog sound to give the album a different feel. The songwriter then hired a children's choir to create a dreamy feel and recorded all of the tunes at Peter Gabriel's Real World Studios in the U.K. She says living and recording at the facility was one of the best experiences of her life.
